The meaning behind "Bobsdottir"
I am the youngest of four girls. For any of you with sisters, you know they tease you - relentlessly! When I was about 3 years old, my sisters decided it would be funny to tell me that not only was I adopted, but that I was adopted from ICELAND!!! At the time, I thought it was such a horrible place to be from, so I would cry and cry.
Fast forward 20 years, when I learned that Iceland is not only a beautiful country, but also one of the healthiest countries in the world! The joke was on them, right?
But where does the name "Bobsdottir" come from? Well in Iceland, a daughter takes her father's name and adds "dottir" (daughter) to it to get her last name. My dad's name is Bob, so you get the name "Bobsdottir".
This name would not be so special if I did not have such a great relationship with my dad. When I was a young swimmer, my dad would yell so loudly that I could hear him under water (he actually got kicked out of a meet for being too loud). As a club soccer player, he would take me and many of my teammates to tournaments all over the south west. When I was a collegiate runner, he actually flew out to California to surprise me for my last race. As I grew into adulthood, he and I would drive out to California every summer to run several half marathons - and he would always find the BEST restaurants to eat at (he was a "foodie" before that term was even coined). He even supported me throughout my 40's as a masters runner and triathlete.
Unfortunately, my dad was diagnosed with stage IV small cell prostate cancer in April of 2017. Despite being vigilant about his health, this rare form of cancer had already ravaged his body before they could stop it. On December 8, 2017, my dad, my biggest fan, my crazy, wild, loud, father of four girls, one son, and 10 grandchildren, passed away.
My dad always thought I should help others with not only my knowledge about nutrition and fitness, but also my personal drive and passion. I could not think of a better way to honor my dad's name than to name my business after him. I love you, Dad! I miss you more than you can imagine.
